May- Relay For Life— The American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising events, started in Casey County in 1998. Since then, the annual relays have raised more than $1 Million in the fight against cancer.


June- Casey County Fair— The Central Kentucky AG/EXPO Center is the site of the Casey County Fair in the first week of June. The fair features something for every family member—a carnival, truck and tractor pulls, demolition derby, beef and dairy cattle shows, beauty pageants, children’s events, and many more events and activities. There is also a Floral Hall, where individuals can enter everything from food items and photographs to quilts.


July-Fourth of July Celebration— Liberty’s Fourth of July celebration boasts one of the premiere fireworks displays in this part of the state. The festivities kick off early, including a 5K run that morning and then a celebration in downtown Liberty. A full-fledged parade, featuring patriotic kids on their bikes, motorcycles, and floats. In addition there are numerous children’s events as well as food and vendors. The celebration then moves to the AG/EXPO center where friends and families will cook out, listen to music, play volleyball or corn toss games while waiting for the “Thunder on the Green” show at dark.


August-U.S. 127 Yard Sales— The annual 127 Yard Sales takes place the first week in August. This is the world’s longest yard sale, stretching 690 miles from Addison, MI to Gadsden AL. The event began in 1987 as the U.S. 127 Corridor Sale. U.S. 127 covers 32 miles in Casey County, with large and small yard sales set up all along the way. The Central Kentucky AG/EXPO center has space for hundreds of vendors under an open-air covered arena. The center also has concessions stand and air conditioned restrooms for visitors.


September-Casey County Apple Festival— Having Just celebrated its 42nd consecutive year, the Casey County Apple Festival was named Kentucky’s best festival for 2010, 2012, and 2015 by readers of Kentucky Livings Magazine. The festival is held each year at the end of September. While there are a weeks’ worth of activities to mark the vent, the main days are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, when “The World’s Largest Apple Pie” is served for free to the public at noon on Saturday. Held in downtown Liberty where the streets are blocked to the public for three days, the festival draws in thousands of visitors and hundreds of vendors. Highlights of the event include pageants, a giant 10-foot cookie and pizza, an apple peeling contest, frog jumping, Big Wheel and bicycle racing, concerts, a dog show, corn toss tournament, a carnival, 5K race, and more.


September-Country Day— Country Day Festival, held at the Butchertown Community Center in the Maxey Valley area of northern Casey County, celebrated its 29th year in 2015. The event is a fundraiser to support the community center for residents in the area, with proceeds from the event going toward improvements at the center. Country Day takes place on the Saturday following Labor Day each September. Traditional events include a nail-driving contest, auction, country store, yard sale wagon, children’s games, music, and lots of good food.


September/October– The Great Outhouse Blowout— Penn’s store in the northern part of Casey County is home to “The Great Outhouse Blowout” which takes place each year in the fall, usually in September or October. The event began in 1992 as a dedication of the store’s first outhouse at Penn’s Store, the oldest continually run family business in the U.S., and is more than 150 years old. In 1994, outhouse races became part of the celebration. The event also features music, food, vendors, a car show, and various contests.


November- Turkey Trot— The Turkey Trot for Tots started in November 2001 as a fundraiser for the Casey County Community Ministries Toys for Tots (now Toys for Kids) program. Sponsored by Drs. Michael and Erica Montgomery Turner of Back and Body Chiropractic Center. The first race drew 63 runners who raised $800 for the organization. Turkey Trot, which is run the Saturdays before Thanksgiving, marked its 16th anniversary in 2016. It averages 130 runners who typically generate between $2500-$3200 for the toy drive. Since its inception, Turkey Trot has raised more than $60,000 to help provide toys for income-eligible children during the Christmas seasons.


December- Christmas Celebration— Liberty-Casey County Chamber of Commerce hosts a downtown Christmas celebration normally held the second Friday after Thanksgiving. Community organizations and businesses join together to offer free chili, coffee, and sandwiches to those who gather to watch a lighted Christmas parade, participate in an auction of donated Christmas items, and see the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree on Courthouse Square. The event also boasts activities for children, train, and horse and buggy rides, and pictures and a visit with Santa Claus.
